Betty Davies is Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Health Care School of Nursing, University of California San Francisco.

She has achieved international recognition for her work on pediatric palliative care, and her leadership in establishing the first free-standing children's hospice in Vancouver, Canada.

She is Board Chair of George Mark Children's Hospice in California, the first freestanding residential children's respite and end-of-life care facility in the United States, following the model of Canuck Place.

   

Betty Davies is actively involved in the Palliative Care Program for Children at the Children’s Hospital of University of California, San Francisco. Current work focuses on two federally funded studies. One of them focuses on the experiences of Latino and Chinese families in pediatric palliative care, and the other focuses on the experiences of the male parent of seriously ill children.

She and her colleagues from Canuck Place are members of the Pediatric Support Care Team, founded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

She is also Chair of the Executive Committee of a federally funded study about training emergency nurses, focusing on end-of-life care.

Betty Davies is actively involved in several projects pertaining to pediatric end of life care and she is President of the International Work Group on Death, Dying and Bereavement, IWG – International Work Group on Death, Dying, and Bereavement.

She will give the Opening Lecture of the Congress.
