Danai Papadatou is a psychologist and she attended the University of Geneva, where she got her bachelor degree, and her PhD. was at the University of Arizona; the theme was: "Psychological factors related to the settlement of cancer in children".

Since 1998, she works at the University of Athens, Faculty of Nursing, teaching Clinical Psychology.

She is part of the editorial board of several international scientific journals and of several international groups and societies in the field of death, bereavement, and palliative care. She has received important awards in the field of bereaved children.

   

She is the founder and she was president (1995-2004) of "Merimna", a non-profit society for the care of children and families facing illness and death, in Greece.

Her work in the field of death and dying is internationally known through her publications, since 1998. Recently (2006), the theme of her publications was pediatric palliative care, and interdisciplinary groups of professionals working with death and bereavement.

She was member of IWG International Work Group on Feath, Dying and Bereavement Board of Directors from 1992 to 2004, and Chair of IWG from 1999 to 2002.

Her clinical and research interests center on health psychology, palliative care issues and bereavement.

Her presentation will focus reflections about health professionals working with palliative care issues and seriously ill people.
